Charlie McAvoy knows a thing or two about representing Team USA in international tournaments. Prior to this year’s World Championship in Denmark, McAvoy has represented USA five times. McAvoy has three gold medals and a bronze under his belt.

McAvoy was a member of the USA team that won gold at the 2017 World Junior Championship, where he was named Player of the Game in the gold medal game.

After his season with the Bruins came to an end after losing in five games to the Tampa Bay Lightning, McAvoy jetted for Denmark, representing USA at the World Championship for the second consecutive year.

The Americans found themselves in the bronze medal game against Canada after a 6-0 loss to Sweden in the semifinal round.

McAvoy picked up an assist, and played a game-high 27:24 in the bronze medal game. McAvoy joined Team USA a bit late, playing in just six games. McAvoy had nine points, tying Finland’s Markus Nutivarra for the tournament lead in defensemen points.

The 4-1 victory over Canada earned USA their eighth bronze medal, while Canada failed to medal for the first time in four years.

Sweden went on to beat Switzerland 3-2 in a shootout to capture the gold.

Czeching In

David Pastrnak and David Krejci joined McAvoy in Denmark, representing their native land of the Czech Republic. The Czech’s were eliminated in the quarterfinals by McAvoy and Team USA. Krejci finished with one goal and five assists in five games, while Pastrnak finished with four goals and two assists in five games.
