A shocker might be a very easy way to describe what happened during the semi-finals of the IIHF World Hockey championships.

1st semi-final of the day was a clash between USA and Sweden. Just as in many games, Sweden took a lead in the 1st period while USA dominated in almost every category of the game. Another goal was scored in the 2nd by Paajarvi to double the Tre Konor lead. Goals started pouring in the 3rd period where Swedes scored 4 unanswered taking a 6-0 victory that sent them to the World Championship finals.

The 2nd semi-final between the all mighty Canada and underdogs Switzerland was what shocked the hockey world. Although Canada dominated on the ice, outshot their opponents by a very long margin. Switzerland's Scherwey scored the 1st goal of the game in the 1st period giving them a very important lead. Team Canada pushed out of the gates in the 2nd period as Bo Horvat managed to tie the game up 7 minutes into the period but their celebrations were cut short as Switzerland regained the lead just minutes later. Third period - a penalty to Ryan Nugent-Hopkins for hooking and Swiss power-play was clutch as Haas re-directed the puck in front of the net that went past Kuemper extending the lead by two goals. Canada pulled Keumper with over two minutes left in the game and Parayko managed to get back within a single goal. Switzerland's Genoni made over 40 saves to earn his team another historic victory. To note: Swiss managed only one shot on goal in the 3rd period.

Bronze game: USA - Canada

Finalists: Switzerland - Sweden
