It's been widely
speculated the Carolina Hurricanes will trade Jeff Skinner this off-season.
In this edition of the hotstove, we discuss which team would be the best fit should that be the case.

I think Jeff Skinner would be an especially good fit on a team like Edmonton. They're looking for a scoring winger who can skate to play with Connor McDavid. Skinner could be just that. He may not be a burner in terms of straight line speed but he possesses elite edges and is so good at shifting and changing angles to make himself available. Skinner has the finishing ability to take advantage of his opportunities and he'd surely get a ton of them alongside No. 97.
I don't know what Carolina would want – they have plenty of young talent up front, on defense, and they're not short in draft capital – but it's certainly worth finding out.

Skinner has one year left at a reasonable $5.75 cap hit, but he's also a pending UFA after this season and coming off a 13 goal dip in production.
So any team trading for him can argue he's in decline and they only get one year out of him. They might even make the argument that the cap hit is too high (even though I don't think it is). This means he's not going to bring back a ton and Carolina should probably just keep him and see if he'll resign.
The Coyotes are a team I think should trade for him. They could use a guaranteed 25 goal winger and he'd be quite an upgrade over every winger they have, save Keller, who might still be a centre anyway.
Coyotes have the cap room, and they have the prospects or draft picks a team like Carolina (if they're blowing it up) would want.

Imagine being JvR or Evander Kane and knowing that some one like Skinner is an option for teams? While the former cost nothing than salary cap space the latter is truly special and stable in salary. There are teams that need offense, looking at you LA. There are also teams that have assets that could fit what Carolina is trying to do (whatever that is) and there's a few who might be interested, perhaps Montreal, Minnesota, or even Vancouver.
There certainly could be suitors but that depends on what the Hurricanes want and that's not really understood yet and the most important factor.
