2018 IIHF World Championship quarter-finalists are known

It was almost pretty clear who would play who in the World Championship quarter-finals, it was left for Latvia and Denmark to battle it out for the final spot in group B and Latvian's won the game 1-0 to earn them a victory and send them off to the 1st post group-stage battle since 2009.

Russia played Sweden to decide the winner of Group A and in a convincing fashion, the Swedes came on top with a 3-1 victory granting them top seed from their group.

Meanwhile, it was known ahead of the final group stage games that Korea and Belarus would be relegated. Neither team could score any points in the tournament.

Group A results:
Sweden - 20 points
Russia - 16 points
Czech Republic - 15 points
Switzerland - 12 points
Slovakia 7 - Points
France - 6 points
Austria - 4 points
Belarus - 0 Points

Group B results:
Finland - 16 points
USA - 16 points
Canada - 15 points
Latvia - 13 points
Denmark - 11 points
Germany - 7 points
Norway - 6 points
Korea - 0 points

May 16th will be used for teams that are required to travel, move in and practice before quarterfinal action on 17th.

Quarter-final match-ups:

Russia - Canada
USA - Czech Republic
Sweden - Latvia
Finland - Switzerland
