Just a quick blog today. Class is in full swing and I’m just getting settled. I did want to at least remind fans of tomorrow’s fundraising event, which will be attended by a few Pred players, a get a topic out there that I’ve been pondering.

I’m just going to quote the user blueline:
“There will be a fundraiser for the Ft Campbell troops and their families next Wed, Aug 29th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at City Hall, 405 12th Ave South.

Chris Mason, Vern Fiddler, and Darcy Hordichuck will be there along with Gnash and other Pred promo people. The fundraiser will be hosted by Emerson Drive, Brad Mates and other Nashville songwriters and performers. There is also a silent auction which lasts until 8:00pm.

The event is sponsored by the BBB, Operation Eagle's Nest, and several other firms and organizations.

Tickets/donations are $35 for adults, $20 for kids 13-17 and free for children 12 and under. Military personnel and their families are, of course, admitted for free. All proceeds will go to OEN for the purchase of Predator tickets to be donated to our soldiers and their families who are some of the best received guests at Pred games. I also think they are some of hockey's biggest fans.

So...lets turn out and give back something to those who sacrifice so much for us.”

If I didn’t have class I would be attending so everyone else show up for me and contribute to this great cause.

I was watching a little bit of football over the weekend and was noticing ESPN and NBC’s big promotion of Monday Night and Sunday Night Football respectively. I began to wonder to myself why NBC doesn’t promote a “Saturday Night Hockey Night”. I don’t see why the US networks don’t take a page out of our Canadian brother’s book.

Why not follow the Hockey Night in Canada model? If NBC is not broadcasting football on a Saturday night, which I’m pretty sure they aren’t, then why not try to continue to market Hockey. What makes them think that waiting to put the games on till halfway through the season is the right strategy? You are not going to build a fan base by covering a sport mid-way through the season.

The Hockey Night in Canada format is proven and has withstood the test of time. Let’s just borrow that and run with it. Why not? The ratings can only get better. What do you think is the solution?

Here are some comments from my previous blogs concerning ways to possibly improve broadcasts. I’d love to hear your thought’s on the matter.

“I don't know if that is TOTALLY possible, as every building has different dimensions, but you would think that it would be a total no-brainer for the league to want to standardize the views as much as possible. Ideally, the goal judge should be able to watch a feed and have no idea if the game is in Dallas or Vancouver or Atlanta or wherever.”

“While the FOX networks puck experiment did not work it would be interesting to see if a computer chip and a GPS could have any application in this regard. Would be expensive but cool.”

I like the idea of standardization of all cameras. I also wonder whether or not it would be possible to put cameras within the goal posts that would be directed toward the goal line. I’ve heard the GPS idea before and agree with Sabata that it would be cool, but the NHL would have to find a way that is cost effective to be able to mass produce the pucks required.

All interesting ideas to be sure. Everyone enjoy the discussion.
