Vasicek an Islander

Great move...diamond in the rough.

Peca or Speca?

Reports are all saying Peca is signing in NY today. I am even saying it based on what I have heard....And it might happen. He passed a physical yesterday and is meeting today regarding his role...

HOWEVER....

Something isn't quite right here, and since I try to read these tea leaves all the time, my instincts are pulling at me and big "BEWARE" signs are going up...I go through these kinds of situations all the time. This one is very familiar, with one notable exception...

Too many leaks, too many people know about every move Peca is making here...

So I have done alot of digging early this morning and I have heard from some very good sources that believe this could be a ploy to get Buffalo to move on a possible deal that is hanging out there with Peca. I do think Buffalo has interest, but if there is more smoke than fire we'll know soon I feel....The Sabres aren't likely to bite at this if the Rangers talk is an effort to get the Sabres to move.

If the Sabres have shown anything it is that they do things on their own watch. Some would argue this has been their worst enemy when it comes to some of their star players, but few can argue that it has helped them build a team that is ridiculously deep and still a threat this upcoming season.

This is one of those situations where we may never know. It is possible that the Rangers will sign Peca today, but there are some logical points that don't make sense as well.

#1. I was told that the earlier Peca interest was mostly around the uncertainty of Avery. Peca and Avery fill the same role. Avery has signed and is a Ranger.

#2. If there was ever a dressing room that has clique issues....This team was the best team in hockey last year following the All-Star break, and they have added Gomez and Drury. Gomez brings a whole new element to that room. Essentially you have Jagr and Avery who really get along and you have Shanahan and Gomez who are close. Drury is not a locker room guy, but a leader by example. That is a huge role for him because he makes everyone accountable. Peca is a VERY strong personality. He has elements of Drury, elements of Avery, and some of the elements that got Gomez into trouble in NJ.

#3. The Cap Space Issue. Although I continue to hear that the Rangers are looking hard and long at a few possible trades for defensive help, and they have figured out a way to clear the needed space it won't be easy..

Throw all this in with the fact that a few teams are a little upset with the Lundqvist deal. Whether it is true or not, there are plenty of people at other organizations who believe that a side deal was worked out to get Lundqvist a one year deal for less, with the unwritten promise that an extension will be worked out after January 1. This gives the Rangers the cap relief needed without the fear of losing their star goaltender. Is it true? Is it technically even illegal? I have no idea, but the perception is absolutely out there...

{~)

I am hearing more talk today of Anson Carter or as we call him {~)...There looks to be an effort ongoing to patch up things and return him to his rightful line in Vancouver...

Please come to Boston for the fall..

Amonte and Roenick are always linked together, so it is apt that I got rumours involving both this morning...First off, JR is looking likely to return to a team...As many as three teams, Toronto, Calgary, and Columbus and Boston have some interest. And don't count out the Islanders as well. JR will come in and play for the league min with bonuses...

Tony Amonte's name has come up tied to Edmonton, Boston, Colorado, Columbus, and Chicago.

more as the day goes on....

UPDATE 6:18 BRUINS CLOSER TO MARKOV, ALLISON TO NYI, NYI/BRUINS TRADE DEAD, HABS AND KINGS TALKING

Some interesting late afternoon rumours breaking....

Two Sources have confirmed and a third is reporting part of a rumour involving a move that would send Axelsson and Ward to Carolina in exchange for a pick and a prospect may be the Cap clearing move that the Bruins would need to make to sign the much need help on D they could get in Markov.

Another source is telling me that all that stands between Jason Allison signing with the Islanders is Jason accepting a one year deal.

The reported trade between Boston and the NYI has fallen through as is evident by the Vasicek signing...

The Habs and Kings are rumoured to be discussing a deal that would bring Visnovsky to Montreal.

The Kings reportedly are asking for a prospect and Steve Begin and a pick. Depending on the source, the Habs may be a stopover for Visnovsky. One source is telling me it is, one isn't sure, but apparently the Sharks have some interest in Visnovsky.

No Peca signing yet.

stay tuned...could be an interesting tonight and tomorrow...
