Today is the first day I can honestly feel the shift from the UFA's to Trade Winds...What is happening here is fascinating, because there is still plenty of great talent out there that needs to find a home, and some RFAs that need to get deals...so there is a squeeze.

I am following reports today on a few possible deals involving the Bruins.

The first one involves the Islanders. The deal, as I have received it from two sources now, would send prospects and picks to Boston for a single player who I am quite frankly surprised to see in a deal. If the Islanders/Bruins deal can not be worked out expect the Isles to look to sign another player by week's end.

As well as this, Boston ties into the Markov situation very closely.

There is a serious need to upgrade the D in Boston, and one source last night informed me that Markov may be holding out for his high number because he knows something regarding the Bruins plans.

The Bruins are trying to clear cap space, and it is likely that the player they want to clear it for is Markov. I am hearing rumours of Aaron Ward perhaps being moved, possibly back to Carolina, to clear that space.

At the same time, the rumours are that the Rangers are talking to the Kings about moving Montoya and the Leafs are talking to the Kings about moving Raycroft...That is the Domino affect from the Auld signing.

The Leafs meanwhile have reportedly launched back into talks with the Avalanche regarding "an impact forward." That forward is believed to be Svatos or Hejduk.

Marty St. Louis has a no-trade clause and has not been approached about waving it according to a source. The Canucks would LOVE to have him, and it is always possible a deal is discussed where unless you are getting close to what you want you WOULD not want to go to the player and discuss the options.

Peca to the NYR looks extremely close, but it could still be that another team pushes its way in...Buffalo and Toronto have also had talks with Peca.

Bryzgalov to Tampa could be done right now if it weren't for "another deal that is being worked on." If Bryzgalov to Tampa does occur, that would be a huge clue to this muddy puzzle...

Talking to a Habs source this afternoon regarding the possibility that they are talking to Vancouver and San Jose..

more as the day goes...
