A truly great hockey writer, Dave Fay, passed away last night. I was lucky enough to have met Dave and was of course fully impressed by him. He is, in my opinion, the first person to have reached legendary status associated with the Capitals. The following beautiful and poignant passage about Dave was sent to me by Kevin Allen, hockey writer from USA Today and the president of the Professional Hockey Writers Association:

"WashingtonTimes reporter Dave Fay died last night after a lengthy battle with cancer. In late May, it was announced he won the Elmer Ferguson Award in honor of his years of hard-nosed reporting. He was to receive that award at a Hockey Hall of Fame luncheon in November. He played the journalism game with his elbows up. He had covered the Capitals since their infancy, and he was truly one of the most believed characters in our game. He was the loveable curmudgeon. Much like the late John Ferguson, he was crusty on the outside and good natured on the inside."

I ask that all comments in this thread pertain to Dave Fay only...

I will be posting my rumours today before 12 noon ET and talking about my day tomorrow where I will be flying to Nashville and doing my part to support hockey in that great city on the radio and during the rally tomorrow evening.
