Yesterday I wondered as to which Leaf was the last to win the NHL
scoring title. Kudos to Ken Kokanie who sent me an e-mail saying it was
Gordie Drillon back in 1937-38. Drillon had 52 points in 48 games that
season playing on the DAD line with Syl Apps and Bob Davidson.

Dateline Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh loses again. The Penguins were just
over two and a half minutes away from victory when Florida tied the
game on the power play. With 15 seconds remaining in the third period,
Mario Lemieux takes an interference penalty, much to his
disappointment. Florida again clicked on the power play less than a
minute into OT for the win. Lemieux had to be escorted by linesmen
Michel Cormier and Pat Dapuzzo off the ice as Lemieux wanted to discuss
his penalty with the refereeswho I now believe are in the witness
protection program.

The New York Islanders showed up for one period of hockey last night,
but these days that's enough to beat Atlanta. The Isles had 9
shotscombined in the first and third period but when you're
playing a team in the Thrashers that are afraid of the ice, that's some
times all you need. 4-3 New York win, Yashin had a pair of goals as did
Ilya Kovalchuk, perhaps some light at the end of the tunnel for Atlanta.

The Boston Bruins were on their way to practise yesterday in suburban
Toronto, when a speeding Jeep lost control in front of them and spun
out across the highway. Luckily for the Bruins their bus driver Les
Seltner won Ontario driver of the year in 2004 and he avoided the
collision by a foot. All on board the bus were fine, no word on the
condition of the Jeep driver.

Nice heads up play by Eric Boulton to call Paul Ranger and apologize.
Next time keep your elbows tucked in and you won't have to call anybody.

Looks like the Avalanche will send Wojtek Wolski back to the OHL.
Wolski has one more game of NHL eligibility left then he can't return
to the junior ranks. Wolski has 6 points this season but he's a -5,
he's in good company though as Rob Blake is a -6. Do you think Blake
and teammates miss Adam Foote?

The arena in Florida has suffered some damage from Hurricane Wilma,
thus the game this Saturday between the Capitals and Panthers has been
postponed.

On October 26th in 1931, the Montreal owned Arena Gardens Company and
the Maple Leaf Gardens people settled a lawsuit out of court. The Arena
Company was suing for breech of contract in the amount of $50,000 for
the Leafs moving to the new arena for 1931-32. The Company wanted
$1,000 per home game (24) and other unspecified damages. The two arena
owners settled on $25,000.

On October 26th in 1931, Charles "The Old Roman"Comiskey dies at
the age of 72. What are the odds of the Sox winning the World Series 74
years after their former owner passed away? Comiskey was the owner the
last time the ChiSox won the World Series and of course he was at the
helm in 1919 when there was a minor issue with eight of his players.
Comiskey had eight pallbearers including former Sox pitcher, Urban
"Red" Faber. Comiskey had no will, so the team was inherited by his
only son, J. Louis Comiskey.

Continuing on with today's history lesson, it was on October 26th in
1881 that the "Gunfight at the OK Coral" took place. Three men lost
their lives that day, Billy Clanton, Tom McLaury and Frank McLaury.

Trivia

Joe Sakic was Quebec's second pick (15th overall) in the 1987 draft,
who did the Nordiques select with their first pick? answer below.

Little Known Fact

To buy season tickets for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1931, you had to
put down a deposit covering the cost of the last four regular season
games. The box office at Maple Leaf Gardens was open MTTF from
930am-530pm, Wednesdays from 930am-9pm. 1931 was the first season for
MLG.

Offside

The ChiSox fan that slapped Craig Biggio's wife. That is not only offside, but it's darn right pathetic.

Trivia Answer

Bryan Fogarty
