Remember October 4, 2014? Islanders fans should. That is the day the Isles grabbed Johnny Boychuk and Nick Leddy just days before the start of the NHL season because the Bruins and BlackHawks were both desperate to make room. That trade made the Islanders immediately better and essentially made all pre-season predictions moot.

This year is appears the NJ Devils may be following a similar formula. I have heard the Devils in on Shattenkirk and Fowler and now I am once again hearing talk of Kris Russell and even Dennis Seidenberg with the Devils.

The Devils have played this right and could really be a much better team a few weeks from now than they are right now.

The only question is how to proceed? Via Trade or UFA? both options are viable. My guess here is the Devils will land Fowler and Russell...and that improvement would rival what the Islanders did in 2014...if not surpass it.
