Murray was in Flames camp on a tryout last year as well but obviously nothing came out it. I expect that will be the case again this year as Murray didn't play in the NHL last season and by all accounts he was ineffective in three years prior.
In today's NHL it's all about speed and skill and even defense-first players have to be able to skate and move the puck up ice. Murray has not shown the ability to do that.
At 35 years of age I very much doubt he's been able to reinvent himself and will seriously contend for a spot.
In saying that competition is never a bad thing and it can't hurt to have another body in camp.
