Fantasy – Goalie Issues + Free Agents

There have been some larger scaled injuries over the past few weeks and none bigger than injuries to both Lundqvist and Andersen, two starting goalies both on high ranked teams. Hopefully if you had one of these two tenders on one of your fantasy rosters you were able to scoop up either Talbot or Gibson as they will steal the starting role until further notice. If you were slow on the jump and someone else grabbed them before you could, there are a very few options to keep your goalie situation intact. Mason for the Flyers is also hurt, so there may be more than just you looking for a goalie.

Another scenario for goaltending that may be an issue is the return of Jonas Gustavsson and Jimmy Howard for the Detroit Red Wings. Petr Mrazek has been great for the Wings, it would be surprising to me if they sent Mrazek down and finished the season with “the monster” and Howard. Keep an eye on this situation and revisit it when the decision has been made.

Evander Kane is out for the season as we all know, and of course now traded. His stats were not exactly phenomenal this season, but if you had him on your roster, Okposo, or anyone else who is currently nursing an injury I have some options for you going forward…

Free Agents:

Before I go into stats and name off some players, there are a couple players who should be returning from injury soon and will likely make an impact when they return. You can grab them now and put them on the IR if you have that option, or you can wait until they are slated to return to their lineups and pick them up then. First player who comes to my mind is Kris Versteeg; he should have no problem getting back onto the top 6 in Chicago where he was thriving. Another player for the Blues is Jori Lehtera who was red hot at the start of the season but kept chipping in points as the season went on. St. Louis is a powerhouse and has been getting better and more offensive as the season has gone on. Either one of these guys would be a great pickup if they are available.

(forwards) production over last 14 days:

Dave Bolland – 2 goals, 4 assists, +3, 4 PIM, 2 PPP

Jonathan Huberdeau – 1 goal, 5 assists, +2, 4 PIM, 1 PPP

Evgeny Kuznetsov – 1 goal, 5 assists, +4, 2 PIM, 1 PPP
Cedric Paquette – 5 goals, +3, 2 PIM, 1 SHP, 2 GWG

(defense) production over last 14 days:

Travis Hamonic – 6 assists, +1, 4 PIM, 3 PPP
Jack Johnson – 1 goal, 3 assists, +6, 8 PIM, 1 PPP
Oscar Klefbom – 2 goals, 2 assists, +4
Tyler Myers – 3 goals, 1 assist, -4, 10 PIM, 1 PPP *just traded to WPG*
Dan Boyle – 3 goals, 2 PIM, 1 GWG
Morgan Rielly – 3 goals, 2 assists, -5, 1 PPP

(goalies)

Other than backup goalies on spot starts there are not many options.

- Dubnyk if available would be a great addition
- Talbot in until Lundqvist is back
- Gibson in until Andersen is healthy

There are only three games lined up tonight: (all confirmed starters)

(DET) Mrazek VS (PIT) Fleury
(VAN) Lack VS (CHI) Crawford
(WSH) Holtby VS (SJ) Niemi

Enjoy tonight’s action and best of luck in your fantasy!

Thanks for reading.
