Hockey Gods Taketh Away

What did everyone think of All-Star Weekend? From the conversations I was having today, the reaction was lukewarm. The draft was painful, the skills competition was pretty boring and the game itself on Sunday was a snooze fest.

But truthfully, the weekend was not for the fans sitting on their butts at home. It was for the fans in attendance, the host team and the sponsors. The highlight of the entire weekend for many I spoke with was the performance by Fall Out Boy. Outstanding!

Our own John Tavares was a stand-out on the ice tying the all-time record with four goals. His team mates tried to get him that fifth goal, but it didn't happen. Still, he will always have this experience, his second, to remember.

Halak had a decent showing and Fleury probably wished he had taken the same road as HIS team mates and stayed home. But he too enjoyed Fall Out Boy. So -- it was a good night.

Then there was today and the third blizzard of the century hitting the east coast. Along with the snow came the dreadful news that Kyle Okposo will be out six to eight weeks.

Okay -- HOW THE HELL DID THAT HAPPEN? (Detached retina? Eye surgery?). Kyle was riding high and having a great season, what the heck happened that he is now OUT for that long? Where is that injury Ninja hiding? Someone find him and tie him to a chair.

Granted, Grabowski should be back in the line-up if they get to play any games this week, but really? Visnovsky is coming off IR too. But every time the hockey Gods giveth, they taketh away and the last member of this roster I wanted to see in a suit was Okposo.

While the Rangers may already be holed up at the Marriot or the Garden City Hotel, depending on how long the "state of emergency" stays in effect, tomorrow's game will probably be rescheduled. Personally I think that works best for everyone.

No one should be driving anywhere while they try to dig out of this mess we will have.
