Game 33: NYR-NJD, Rangers Making Little Sense with Possible Lineup Tweak

The Rangers and Devils match up tonight is a meeting of two teams heading in vastly different directions. New York has won seven in a row and vying for their eighth straight tonight while New Jersey, who fired Pete DeBoer yesterday, are 2-5-3 in their last 10 and 12-17-7 on the season. The Devils will have GM Lou Lamierello behind the bench with Scott Stevens and Adam Oates as assistant coaches. Of course, when these two teams met, the rivalry is the thing and records can be thrown out the window.

Riddle me this Batman. You have a squad that has won seven in a row and played well doing so. In addition, you have a winger who has been one of your better players since coming from the AHL. Now, would you sit him in general? In addition, would you sit him so one of the lowest rated possession players remains in the lineup so Lee Stempniak can get back in now that he is removed from the mumps? Yet, that is what coach Alain Vigneault looks like he is doing tonight based on the morning skate.

The top lines of Nash-Brassard-Zuccarello and Kreider-Stepan-St. Louis were intact this AM. However, Stempniak was on the right of Carl Hagelin and Kevin Hayes while the fourth line of Glass-D. Moore-Fast were intact as well. I understand not losing your spot to injury, but why take out Miller and not Glass or even Fast? Miller has shown that he deserves to remain in the lineup. I don't care that Stempniak and Miller were supposed to flip-flop during the practice this AM. Keeping Miller in the lineup over Stempniak and Glass and Fast is a no-brainer. Why AV is making the head-scratching and bonehead move makes no sense at all to me.
