Watch & listen to Mike Morreale from NHL.com and I blather about Team USA after the second day of on ice action at USA Hockey's National Junior Team Selection Camp in preparation of the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Team USA defeated Boston University 5-2 in their first pre-tournament game in preparation of the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship. Two early shorthanded goals from Noah Hanifin and Jack Eichel early in the first period. Chase De Leo and JT Compher scored with Anthony DeAngelo tacking on the empty netter.

Three players have been released - forwards Adam Erne and Michael McCarron and defenseman Jack Dougherty - leaving the roster at 27 - 3 goalies, 9 defenseman, 15 forwards.

Erne was a returning player from last year's team, but I'm not surprised he's going home. His game is rather one-dimensional and versatility is key in a short tournament like this.

Disappointed for McCarron knowing how hard he worked to be better this season and earn an invite to this camp, but he was already climbing an uphill battle and he didn't have his best game tonight.

Not surprised with Dougherty either...he wasn't bad, he just wasn't exceptional and this is a very tough blueline to crack.

Standouts from tonight's game:

Jack Eichel
Noah Hanifin
Anthony DeAngelo
JT Compher
The entire third line - Milano, De Leo and Louis
Miles Wood - thrown into the fire, even taking a handful of shifts with Eichel and Tuch and didn't look a bit out of place. Felt he at least earned a longer look.

Team USA will travel to Kingston, Ontario tomorrow with their next pre-tournament game on Sunday against Germany at 7ET available online through FastHockey.com
