New Season, Same Old Script For The Devils

It's a new season, but the Devils are still going off the same script.

After a few questionable efforts, New Jersey reverted back to what we've seen all too often in recent years, which is outplaying the opposition and getting no results.

That was on display to the extreme on Wednesday night as the Devils outshot Ottawa 34-16 and won the shot attempt battle 57-24 (including 40-22 at even-strength) while being shutout 2-0 by the Sens.

Despite their efforts the team was almost outscored by Craig Anderson, as he just missed an empty-net with a full-length shot.

It was a game the Senators had no business being in, and one that they left having collected two points while the Devils were left with nothing.

The struggling Devils have now played 33 games, which is tied for the league lead, yet have more wins than only Edmonton (7), Carolina (8) and Colorado (10).

They're six points behind the Rangers for 3rd in the Metro even having played four more games, and are seven points out of a Wild Card spot.

With more than half the season remaining the Devils are likely already too far out of the playoff race to have a realistic shot at making them, which is disappointing for a once proud franchise that will probably be golfing early for the 4th time in five seasons.
