Are you waking up with a smile? Probably because the #isles moved into a tie for 1st place. #TheSkinny on a big win: http://bit.ly/1xkUg1p

That’s right, \the Islanders are sharing first place in the Metropolitan division today with a 4 - 1 over the Pens. I would have been happy with one win, but two? It makes you giddy.

Andrew Fok ‏@islandersallday
14-6 #isles are tied for first in the division. We Are For REAL!!!!

Matt Martin scored the first Isles goal of the night and would be named the first start in front of a packed house.

That's some A game atmosphere in the old barn. And I'm only sitting in front of a TV. Great crowd. #Isles

As was I, but you could feel it. Howie Rose and Butch Goring couldn’t help by comment repeatedly about the crowd at the Coliseum and how much they were a part of the Isles success.

Sean Marshall‏@_legohead_
Matt Martin now has more goals this season than Thomas Vanek #Isles

Wow. And both against the Pens goalies. Martin with Shannon Hogan at the end of the game gave the fans their due and was rewarded with resounding cheers, especially when he, as Cal Clutterbuck before him, openly admitted they just don’t like the Penguins. “I’m glad we were able to com out on top. (Winning gives us …) A lot of confidence. They are one of the top teams every year. I’m excited for the rest of the season. I think we still have a lot of young guys we don’t have a ton of experience. It was physical, it was loud with not a lot of penalties. It’s a playoff atmosphere.”

Steve Caiazzo ‏@Dirge13
Hey @penguins, I heard you were treating this as a playoff series. Looks like you lost. Better watch your backs. We're here. #isles #Hummin

As the fans became louder he said “It seems they want to tear the place down before we get out of here.”

Anders Lee, Brock Nelson and Captain John Tavares also contributed goals to the Isles win. But it’s that fourth line that makes you wonder; can they really be considered a fourth line? They are consistent, relentless and successful.

Christian Arnold ‏@CA_NYHockey
I said on the podcast earlier in the week if #Isles take 2-of-3 games then it’s a good week… Won all three games, yeah it’s a good week.

In three games this week, the Isles have had NINE different players score 14 goals. Who are these guys?

Peter McEntee ‏@PJMcEntee
I'd like to say that the Isles would be the 2nd best team in the WESTERN Conference. Let that sink in #isles

Whoa there, let’s not get cocky. We still have a lot of games to play.

Kaitlin Quinn ‏@kquinns
I can't wait to get into my car and honk the horn like there's no tomorrow #isles

Ohhhh… something else we won’t have in Brooklyn.

Joey Finley ‏@JFINLEY_BUF
#Pens have 2nd straight loss against the #Isles while the @BuffaloSabres have the 3rd straight win.

Maybe there is a rift in the space/time continuum. And Matt Moulson scored a goal tonight too.

The team success can’t be denied, but personal success is impressive just as well:

Anthony Stabile ‏@tonystabile
Nikolay Kulemin has 11 points in 20 games this season. He had 20 last season. #Isles

Anthony Stabile ‏@tonystabile
Brock Nelson scored his 10th goal of the season. He had 14 all of last season. #Isles #breakout

Travis Hamonic didn’t add to the score sheet, but he added to his fight card when he and Downie exchanged more than words in the first period. Downie was trying to agitate everyone -- but Matt Martin. His insistence on being a nuisance ended up getting him kicked out of the game midway through the third period giving Brock Nelson the opportunity for a power play goal.

Andy Graziano ™ ‏@tazman19
Hamonic called himself "no goon but you can't be taking liberties out there. I'll fight when I have to". #isles

He hasn’t had to often, but he will always answer the bell.

Healthy Scratch ‏@soopahgenius
Celebrate tonight, but come tomorrow we need to start acting like we belong here. #StayClassy #Isles

We’ll try. Hey, even the NY Times had an article on Frans Nielsen, so the Isles MUST be getting some sort of respect. Now if they could just get some from The Hockey News.

We can’t forget that Isles great Billy Smith was honored last night and spent most of the day with the media, friends (like Clark Gillies and Bob Bourne) and fans.

Stephen ‏@StephenCLorenzo
Billy smith: "(Coliseum) is still a great rink.. It's a shame they're leaving."

Brett Cyrgalis ‏@BrettCyrgalis
BTW, Billy Smith on NY and the #NYR: "We came into their territory, and let’s face it, it’s still they’re territory. It’ll never change.”

He also lead the Isles onto the ice and dropped the first puck:

Arthur Staple ‏@StapeNewsday
Billy Smith with the ceremonial puck drop. He did not slash Crosby.

He didn’t have to. The Isles have managed to keep Sidney off the score sheet for six periods. That has to hurt worse than any slash. Although…. Maybe not a classic Billy Smith slash.

Onward! Isles face the Flyers on Monday. Let’s keep this going.

Sideboard: It was a sold out crowd and I haven't seen any problems with the mini-locker give-away yet. You needed a special voucher and game ops was handling giving them out in the lower level of the coliseum. They finally got smart about it. Too often fans would find ways of hoarding the giveaway only to sell them on ebay while other fans didn't receive any.

Rick DiPietro was on MSG's Hockey Night Live after the hockey double header of the Isles and a late night Devils game. He needs a haircut. Please.
