With all the injuries the Blue Jackets have been dealing with, they've recalled forwards Brian Gibbons and Sean Collins in advance of Friday's game against the Maple Leafs.
The Blue Jackets were already well undermanned before Artem Anisimov and Mark Letestu suffered injuries against Ottawa, so Gibbons and Collins will likely both step right into the lineup.
Gibbons is a guy who played all over Pittsburgh's lineup last year late in the regular season as well as in the playoffs. He was successful on whatever line he played on and his speed was a huge boost for his team, so he'll be able to help Columbus wherever they put him.
I believe Gibbons is a better alternative in the bottom-6 than several players the Jackets have been using regularly (i.e. Jared Boll, Adam Cracknell, etc.) and this is a good opportunity for him to prove that.
As for Collins, he is off to an excellent start in Springfield having recorded six points and 14 shots in eight contests. He's been playing center in the AHL, and will likely do the same with Columbus.
