Jets (and Refs) 4-3 Win over Isles

"These are the types of games that keep coaches up at night." So said the man who should know; Butch Goring.

Frustration as the word for the night all around. On the ice, in the locker room, on the bench and on my cough. The Isles opened up the scoring as BrockTober continued and Nelson potted a Boychuck rebound.

And then it was downhill from there. As everyone has said, it was the boarding major on Kulemin that changed the game for the Isles. It was marginal in my opinion. What sold it was Stuart laying on the ice motionless for quite a few seconds until the trainer came to him. Kulemin was protected by striped and whisked off the ice. His night was done, and so were the Isles.

Stuart sold it big. The Jets were awareded a five minute power play where they capitalized with two goals. Trouba scored over Halak's glove, but atleast it wasn't his blocker side. Then the officials became completely inconsistent.

Grabovski was taken down and there was no call at all. Hickey was sent sailing into the boards by Scheifele, but he only received a penalty of two minutes, not five and a game. Difference? Hickey didn't lay on the ice as if he was shot.

John Tavares scored for the on a power play. Drought over. Grabovski also scored to tie the game at three with his third of the season. Patience always pays off.

But Ladd put the Jets back on top and that is where the score stayed until the final buzzer. No matter what the Isles attempted to do or how the refs reacted.

The goal horn sounded for a brief moment when Grabovski skated in and was hooked, but still took the shot that rang off the post. It looked like it went in for a split second and a penalty was called on the Jets.

Conacher took a high stick to the face that caused him not to be able to open his eye. Guess what? No call.

So whether it was the 5 minute major, the lack of Kulemin on the bench, Kyle Oposo's turnover or the fact the refs were not on the same page, the Islanders never regained their game.

The power play should have been better and a full 15 minutes of the third period were all Jets. According to John Tavares, "The third period, we didn't make it pretty enough. We had our chances, but we didn't get as much opportunity as we would have liked and we didn't make it tough enough."

From the couch, it was tough enough to watch.
