The Boston Bruins season may have been thrown upside down on Thursday, as All-Star defenseman Zdeno Chara suffered an injury to his left knee in a 3-2 loss to the New York Islanders at TD Garden.

The giant blueliner was injured after colliding with New York's John Tavares midway through the first period, as the knee of the Islanders star center appeared to buckle Chara's left knee.

TSN's Aaron Ward reported following the game that Chara had suffered ligament damage and that he is expected to be out 4-6 weeks, but it could be longer if further evaluation determines that surgery is necessary.
