The NHL did the right thing yesterday by canceling last night's scheduled game in Ottawa. It was also a nice touch to have the Canadian anthem sung at all games around the League last night. Perhaps it was a simple gesture, but it was fitting.

Hockey is Canada's greatest national pastime but it's still just a game. Following the horrifying events in Ottawa yesterday, things such as last night's game results and trade rumors were all put in their proper context.

I think I can safely speak for every writer and reader at HockeyBuzz across North America and the world in saying that our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of Nathan Cirillo, to all in Ottawa and everyone in Canada.
