Some quick hits as I am traveling this morning...
The Islanders and Bruins are having discussions about a defenseman...which should come as no surprise to anyone. The Bruins are "driving a hard bargain for a team which needs to make a move," one source noted. The Bruins have already talked to (and continue to talk with) the Oilers and the Jets. There is also a widely held believe the that a Ryan O'Reilly deal could indeed be already agreed upon contingent to the Bruins making space. Torey Krug however...could be on his way to the Islanders...
The Hurricanes, who suffered a big loss last night when losing Jordan Stall to a broken leg, are in talks with the Blackhawks I am told (e4). It is not know whether or not the deal would include the speculated Johnny Oduya, but I am told it appears more likely a forward could be included...perhaps Versteeg...
Killing two birds with one stone...
Can't discuss this much yet, but I am told we could likely see a trade/ signing go down in the near future that fixes a couple problems at once. Issues that have been laboring on for some time now.
On Ryan Johansen's "counter offer."
The rumor came out a few days ago that a new proposal...a much "more realistic" proposal had been put forth by Johansen camp that would equate to a two year bridge deal around 4.5 per...and while yes that is over 2 million LESS than the original two year deal (and 3 million less than the 4 year deal) the devil is in the details on this one.
The new offer would equate to that cap hit indeed, but the second year would be over 6 million! And remember what I said last week, that how the second year of a bridge deal is what matters, because it essentially sets the price for the third and fourth years since a team would have to qualify the player at that second year price...
At this point in the negotiations you would think neither side would try to "pull a fast one" so to speak...but apparently one side did...
