The Ducks got a look at some their future stars in action this past weekend. Their prospects won both games they hosted against the San Jose Sharks.

On Saturday night the Ducks lost a 4-2 lead halfway through the third period, but rebounded to pull out a 5-4 shootout win. Goalie Igor Bobkov led the Ducks to a 2-0 shutout win on Sunday at the Honda Center. I want to thank Mike, a.k.a. Bombay1993, who sent in the following weekend report:

As you have read the Ducks prospects had a great weekend. With that said, there should be no surprise top prospects Nick Ritchie, Nic Kerdiles, Noeson, Shea Theodore & co. continue to lead the pack amongst prospects. They all had great showings and contributed on the score sheet as well. They definitely stood out amongst our prospects and even more so amongst their rivals.

Noesen looks great, solid solid player. Could be the feather in the cap of the Bobby Ryan trade after two other solid players.

Max Friberg, LW/RW
Although on the smaller side, 5'10'' Friberg showcased his speed and skill during both games (1g/0a). Friberg plays bigger than his frame and his compete level was definitely noticeable. Excellent two-way player who's most comparable to me to Andrew Cogliano. Not quite as fast as Cogs, but similar two-way style with offensive upside. Log jam of forwards ahead of him but in my opinion reestablished himself. Additionally, he has showed he's productive at the pro level 40pts (17g/23a) at Norfolk leaves a solid foundation to build on.

William Karlsson, C
Ducks 2nd game standout, Karlsson showed off his sweet hands but was most impressive in passing and ability to stay on the puck. I don't recall his face-off ability but looks to be solid passing playmaker who could see some action sooner rather than later down the middle. Most likely needs to get bigger and put in a solid year in Norfolk.

I'm going to continue on Mike's path with some of the lesser known prospects.

Igor Bobkov, needed to shine while he had the spotlight. Unless one of Frederik Andersen, John Gibson, or Jason LaBarbara stink it up or gets hurt in camp, his opportunities are going to be few and far between. His performance may have earned him a KHL shot.

Kevin Gagne made a good impression on his teammates. Here are Stefan Noesen's comments on Gagne:

“It was a great play by Kevin Gagne, who saw me from across the way. I just tried to let it go, and luckily it went in.”

Etienne Marcoux came into the first game, halfway through. He was in net when San Jose scored two goals to tie the game. Not an impressive debut.

I'll be back with some thoughts on the star prospects tomorrow.
