I was told the Oilers are actually talking to the Bruins at this point (beyond people speculating the two sides as a fit) and Johnny Boychuk and Torey Krug appear to be the focal point... However this morning another source, tied very closely to Edmonton, informed me the real talk has so far centered around youngster Joe Morrow...who spent most of last year in the AHL and was a key piece in the Seguin trade. "Morrow fits in more with the Oilers timeline..."

Of course previous speculation was centering around Boychuk and Krug (who still remains unsigned).

Does going without a Captain Ever Work?

There is a lot of talk today about the Canadiens decision to go with 4 assistant captains this season instead of naming PK Subban, the inevitable captain of this group, the captain IMMEDIATELY. I have never really believed in this concept. Hockey and the "Captaincy" is very different from other sports and the Captain often plays the roll of the go between in discussions between the players and the coaching staff. It helps to have one focal figure in such disputes or you get the formation of factions as players decide which player to complain to various issues.

Especially in Montreal where the coach has his detractors in the locker room and has lost Gallant as a buffer for disagreements .... I just don't see the upside at this point.
