Welcome to the first REAL work day of September, and this day to me always feels like hockey. We are getting there my friends, and with camps set to open soon many out there are playing this whole "camp invite season" close to the vest. So far we know Simon Gagne is trying out with Bostin, and the NJ Devils are inviting the wayward Tomas Kaberle and their 4th all-time leading scorer Scott Gomez to a camp tryout.

As for the big names however...we only have rumors as both sides of this game prefer to keep their options open until the final minutes. Here are a few players that I am tracking who I believe could make an impact.

On Andrei Loktionov....

The funny thing about Loktionov is that when I think of him I think of the first LA Kings Cup celebration on the ice just three years ago...and yet in that time the 24-year-old has played in NJ and Carolina. So much promise in this kid who hurt his shoulder player in the worlds in June only to find out he wouldn't be qualified by the Canes. This much skill though should have found a home by now. San Jose is a possible landing spot as is Pittsburgh. I have heard an "outside chance" that he gets an invite to Colorado or Tampa.

On Ville Leino...

So far I have heard San Jose and Philly regarding Leino.. However I was told last night the Penguins may be calling Ville in. As rough as the last few seasons have been for Leino it is important to remember how good he once was while playing with the Flyers. Claude Giroux lost a line-mate when Hartnell was traded. Leino also has shown himself to be a stellar playoff performer.

On Douglas Murray...

What Murray lacks in speed he makes up for in grit and determination. One really can't underestimate that impact. Murray was very good for the Canadiens in the playoffs until he saw his ice time diminish. Murray is on the Wings and Sens radar...possibly the Flames and Kings.

On Sami Salo...

Sami Salo turns 40 today and is such a strong established defensive presence. A return to Vancouver is NOT out of the question at all I am told, but I have also heard Detroit and Colorado.

On Jamie McBain...

McBain is the kind of D-man who can really eat up minutes and on a good team can be a force. Tampa, who let Salo go and wants toughness, is a team to watch, but so is Winnipeg and Montreal.

On Henrik Tallinder...

If Detroit's Swedish panel has any say Tallinder will get a shot. Phoenix also may invite him in. Tallinder is incredibly respected among his fellow Swedes and brings tremendous experience to a young team.

On Ryan Malone...

Malone hit his low point this past year, but at his core I still believe Malone is a solid person and I have seen the positive impact he can have on a locker room and young players. Malone really wants to return to Pittsbugh in the worst way and if given a tryout with the Penguins could be hard to top. The Flyers, Devils and Hurricanes are also rumored interested...oh, and the Maple Leafs..

On Derek Morris...

Derek Morris is ONLY 36. That doesn't sound right, but it is. For his skill set and position it is very odd that Morris has become such the journeyman. Over the last few years, since he left Boston, he has been struggling to get his defense together. I have heard his native Edmonton could give him a tryout and were I them I would definitely being doing so.

We will be discussing these players and more on today's HockeyBuzzCast Live at 1pm ET
