Things have not looked this bleak for the Canes since... |

...the summer of 2005.
NO ONE is picking the team to finish any higher than way out of the playoffs. There is talk of the team moving (to Las Vegas). An undersized, undrafted Chad LaRose will be making a longshot attempt to push for a roster spot only because the team was not very good last year. And the last playoff hockey in Raleigh feels like ages ago.
The situation for the Carolina Hurricanes has not been this bleak since the summer of 2005.
But it is September, and if you have been a Hurricanes fan for long enough, you know that September is the time to feel like anything is possible. Because for this team, it really has been. I know the memories are dim right now, but this franchise has 3 deep playoff runs in its still fairly short history and not one of them came out of a preseason where anyone in their right mind saw it coming.
It is time to let go of last season and look forward to another season of Canes hockey. After a chaotic 2nd half of the summer, I will pick up the pace blogging-wise heading into training camp. While I do not plan to ignore or gloss over the current issues in the land of Caniacs, I am still going to keep a "half full" mindset.
