I am hearing there is progress toward a contract extension for San Jose Sharks defenseman Justin Braun. This is the direction most NHL teams have gone with most of their potential unrestricted free agents one season before their UFA eligibility.

Braun has a $1.25 million cap hit in his current deal. The 27-year-old coming off a season where he logged nearly 21 minutes of ice time per game and was a +19.

It would not be at all surprising if a multi-year extension is in place before the start of the regular season.
