Sonny Milano is heading to Plymouth.

After weeks of speculation about Milano's future, and where he'd be suiting up in 2014-15, it was finally announced he'd be heading to the OHL to join the Plymouth Whalers.

Of course to do that, the 2014 16th overall pick had to forego heading to Boston College.

That's a decision former BC star Johnny Gaudreau unsurprisingly disagreed with.

A few thoughts on Milano heading to Plymouth:

- I don't think anyone in a position to say he made the incorrect decision. He was given two good options, and he chose one over the other. Every case is different, and every player values different things. Suggesting that signing a pro contract and going to the OHL is stupid isn't something I can agree with.

- Milano couldn't head to Boston College if he wanted to sign with Columbus. He was never going to stay at BC long enough to get a degree - it would only be a year or two until he turned pro - so going to BC really wouldn't do much for him. There were benefits for both sides to get a deal done early. Struggles in college or a serious injury could have prevented Columbus from giving Milano a deal, while Milano could have waited it out and signed with a new team a few years down the road a la Kevin Hayes. This makes sense for both parties.

- As I said, Milano was only going to go to Boston College for a year or two. When it comes down to strictly getting ready for pro hockey, I think the OHL is the best route. There's significantly more games, and a pro-style schedule. More games gives Milano more time to develop his skills and improve as a player.
