Over the summer I tend to delve into the numbers on a regular basis, and while there's quite a bit of data available for skaters, there's next to nothing for goaltenders.

With that in mind, I decided to look at each start a goaltender made and categorize the save percentages said goaltender recorded. This allows me to see how often goaltender X posted a save percentage better than .900, better than .910 and so forth.

While the difference in a .915SV% and, say, .917SV% isn't very significant, I wanted to look into the save percentages by start to see if there were any discrepancies.

I was also curious to see how much more frequent someone like Cory Schneider or Sergei Bobrovsky posted a .900SV%+ compared to someone considered by many to be a low-end starter in Braden Holtby. The difference isn't as large as some would think.

Note: I bolded/italicized/underlined the leader in each category.

Some thoughts:

- Though Bobrovsky's overall save percentage was .08 higher than Marc-Andre Fleury's, the latter posted a .900SV%+ more frequently than Bobrovsky. The difference was minimal, but it was surprising nonetheless.

- Anton Khudobin was an absolute beast with the Hurricanes last season. His sample size isn't as large as anyone else's, but it was large enough to indicate his save percentage wasn't just the byproduct of a few good starts. He'll probably have to split starts with Cam Ward in 2014-15, which is great news for the rest of the division.

- I was surprised to see Henrik Lundqvist post sub .900 save percentages as frequently as anyone charted. When he was on, he was on, though, as only Jaroslav Halak and Khudobin posted a .910SV% or higher in a bigger chunk of their starts.

- Sticking with Halak, it looks like the Islanders finally have themselves a quality starter. I believe the team's SV% last year was around .900, so if Halak can post anything close to a .921SV% they'll allow a boat load less goals. I think the Isles are going to surprise some people in 2014-15.
