The Blue Jackets have re-signed yet another restricted free agent in forward Jerry D'Amigo.
The 23-year-old winger put pen to paper on a one-year, two-way extension with Columbus.
In 22 NHL games with the Maple Leafs last season D'Amigo was pretty effective. He only had three points while buried on the 4th line averaging less than eight minutes a night, but did a nice job of using his speed, killed some penalties, and had a plus-7 penalty differential.
Depth players are more important than ever, so if a bottom-6 player is drawing a lot more penalties than he's taking, it's a huge advantage, and puts top players in more optimal situations to produce.
D'Amigo will compete for a depth role on the team in camp, and to me he's the best 4th line left wing option the team has. It's up to him to prove that this fall.
With D'Amigo signed, the last Blue Jackets RFA without a contract is Ryan Johansen.
