If Cap Dollars Work, Flyers May Still Be Big on Byfuglien... Buzzcast at 2

It is no secret that Dustin Byfuglien is one of the most polarizing players in the NHL. Some hockey people love the guy and consider him one of the game's most unique talents when properly used. There are others who simply wouldn't want him on their team -- as much because it's tricky to find the right on-ice fit for him as because of the much-publicized question marks about his weight and conditioning.

For years, I have heard that the Philadelphia Flyers covet Byfuglien... at least a segment of the decision-makers. There are others in the same organization who scoff at the mere mention of the player's name. Zach Bogosian (who has not been available when teams have inquired about his availability) is the one Winnipeg defenseman on whom there is has long been consensus.

Nevertheless, I am still hearing that if the Jets ultimately trade Big Buff this offseason, Philly is still the most likely destination. The Islanders, Canadiens and Capitals are also still in the mix if a deal goes down. Here's the thing, though: Whether it's Byfuglien or Bogosian or Evander Kane, Kevin Cheveldayoff has set the price tag very, very high and won't back off what he thinks those players are worth in trade.

Specific to the Philadelphia possibilities, I am hearing that the team wants to improve its precarious cap situation before it makes any hockey trades that may involve adding salary in the exchange.
