Rangers Continue Replenishing Roster With Stempniak

The forward depth of the New York Rangers was one of the main reasons they were able to get through the Eastern Conference and reach the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in two decades.

That depth became a target on July 1, as Benoit Pouliot signed a five-year deal in Edmonton, Brian Boyle signed for three years with Tampa Bay, Derek Dorsett traded to Vancouver and Brad Richards bought out.

With Derick Brassard, Mats Zuccarello and Chris Kreider all restricted free agents, Rangers GM Glen Sather has been able to replace these key contributors using very little salary cap room.

New York re-signed Masterton Trophy winner Dominic Moore for two years, added free agent winger Tanner Glass, brought back former NHLer Matthew Lombardi from Europe with a two-year, $1.6 Million contract and on Saturday added journeyman forward Lee Stempniak for $900,000 on a one-year deal.

The 31-year-old Stempniak has scored in double figures eight times in his 10-year career and fit in well in Pittsburgh on Sidney Crosby's line after being acquired at the trade deadline.

Do you think the Rangers have done enough this summer to remain competitive in the East?

Rumor update later this afternoon.......
