Tim Erixon finally put pen to paper on a contract extension with Columbus, and he was able to get what he wanted most: a one-way deal.

Erixon's one-way deal is for one-year and will carry a cap hit of $600,000. Barring a dreadful camp, he's all but a lock to make the team this year as a) the team views him as NHL ready and; b) if they tried to assign him to the AHL, he'd have to clear waivers and they'd lose him.

Erixon had 38 points in 40 AHL games last season, which is a pretty impressive feat for a 23-year-old blue liner.

He still has to win a roster spot, but I think it's a safe bet to assume he will. His toughest competition will be Cody Goloubef and Will Weber, two guys he out performed at the AHL level.

The more intriguing battle, in my opinion, will be how he fares compared to Dalton Prout. I think those two will duke it out for the left handed slot on the 3rd pairing. Prout was signed to a two-year extension not long ago, and the organization seems pretty high on him, but puck-movers who can push the pace are extremely important in today's NHL, and Erixon fits that description.

It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out in camp. All we know now is Erixon will play in the NHL this year one way or another.
