Pretty high praise from Sports Illustrated....agree, disagree?

I'll go with...agree!

SNOW HAILED
Garth named NHL Executive of the Year by Sports Illustrated

In this week's issue of Sports Illustrated, Islanders general manager Garth Snow is named the NHL's Executive of the Year.

SI's Hall of Fame hockey scribe Michael Farber writes: "In eight months...Snow has gone from backup goalie to SI's pick for NHL Executive of the Year."

Farber cites a series of moves by Snow that have put the Islanders in the playoff picture: signing Viktor Kozlov; creating salary cap flexibility with two trades with Philadelphia that also brought back Freddy Meyer and Randy Robitaille; and adding Richard Zednik and Ryan Smyth before the deadline last Tuesday.

On the Smyth deal, the article says that Snow laid the groundwork with Edmonton by approaching Kevin Lowe at the general manager's meeting the week before. "When contract negotiations (between Smyth and Edmonton) broke down 20 minutes before the deadline...Snow, after conferring with coach Ted Nolan and spending one minute on the phone with (Charles) Wang, made the deal."
