Playoff Corsi% and Conn Smythe Trophies

I've dropped a radial graph -- sorted by Corsi% -- for all of the remaining regular skaters below. We spend an awful lot of time talking about Conn Smythe trophies, so I always enjoy looking at which players were the most territorially dominant during that six-week window.

As always, you start at 12:00 AM and work clockwise. The more you work around the clock, the more territorially dominant the player has been during the post-season. (For example, Handzus is just getting killed out there.)

(Clarifying one repeat: Brad Richards is the 45%'er; Mike the 51%'er. )

I think the biggest surprise is how well Tyler Toffoli grades out here. He just turned 22-years old in April, but he's having himself a whale of a playoff run. That, by the way, includes five goals and nine points in sixteen games.

On the other end, the Seabrook/Keith pairing is strikingly average this post-season. They're obviously drawing tougher assignments (a reader aptly noted that it's actually Hjalmarsson who is getting the toughest of all), but if I'm a Blackhawks fan, I'm maybe a bit concerned that they're not flexing on everyone like usual. On the other hand, it's given a bit more flexibility for guys further down the depth chart to succeed, like Nick Leddy.

Speaking of the Conn Smythe, I think weighing the counting numbers -- your goals and assists and whatever else you like to pull from the RTSS sheets -- with the underlying numbers is a great way to pindown the guys who actually deserve post-season honors. Excluding goalies (not represented here, obviously), I think the best argument to be made is for Anze Kopitar, with Jonathan Toews not very far behind.

I don't know if you have a skater answer for New York. Lundqvist seems like such overwhelming favorites to represent. New York's skaters are scoring by committee (like, MZA and St. Louis), too.

Subban's a great pick from Montreal, especially if they come from behind without Carey Price (the likely favorite from his team). I note that Brendan Gallagher has been excellent too.

Just a thought for this Thursday.
