We at SlapShot Radio are very excited to announce a series of Wednesday night Playoff Watch Parties. We will be broadcasting the show live at 7pm while watching playoff action at Tavern 96, located at Bridgestone Arena. Come on out and talk playoff hockey with Pete Weber and I as we enjoy the great hospitality at Tavern 96. Our special guests include Terry Crisp and more, this Wednesday night at 7pm… More details to come on the SSR Facebook page and slapshotradio.com.

Time for our regular feature… one last for the season. SlapShot Radio’s intrepid photographer was out and about last night, capturing the action on the ice and in the stands for our Sunday Shots…

I wrote this on Friday.

It will be very nice of the large group of Blackhawk fans to come to Smashville and attempt to recreate the home atmosphere from the United Center. That atmosphere has paid big dividends for the Blackhawks in this year’s season series with the Predators. :-) (sarcasm /off)

It came to fruition last night at the home season finale for the Nashville Predators. A 50/50 crowd that recalled the early years of the Nashville franchise when the red that would show up on Broadway had a winged wheel on the jersey and you couldn’t find more than a handful of Blackhawk fans in the seats when Chicago came to town. But success breeds a bandwagon and a large contingent of Blackhawk fans went home unhappy for the second time in Nashville and the fourth time in five overall games this season as the Predators won a wild 7-5 victory that featured a seven goal third period, four of those in the last 2:55 of the game.

To give credit where due, last night’s contingent from Chicago was much better behaved than the arrest filled drunk fest that attended the November game. Perhaps they were thrown off by Dennis K. Morgan’s incredible version of “God Bless America.” The crew never sounded as loud as their numbers would’ve suggested and they were regularly shouted down by the Loyal Legion that didn’t give up on the team and sell their tickets for a few pieces of silver. A special shout out to those denizens of Pred Nation that came out ready to support their team last night, watching it on TV certainly didn’t match being there live and this one was certainly one to remember.

Here are your highlights…

So, one more game, tonight at Minnesota, expect to see Carter Hutton in net for the Preds. It will be one last TV game for Pred Nation until October. The Predators have the opportunity to finish this lost season 8-1-1… cold comfort for the long hot summer to come, but perhaps… something to springboard from. Game time is 7pm, coverage on 102.5 The Game, the Predators Radio Network and Fox Sports Tennessee.

Random Notes

- Seth Jones will be going to play for Team USA in the upcoming World’s.

- That was the second time this season the Predators hung a seven spot on the ‘Hawks.

- A trio of Preds lead the team scoring race heading into tonight’s game… Shea Weber, Craig Smith and Patric Hornqvist all posted their 22nd goals of the season last night.

- Fascinating read from Dimitri Filipovic posted at The Sporting News. It’s a must read for the crowd that seems to think that picking up an “elite goal scorer” is simple.

- Eric Duhatschek has a solid piece in Friday’s Globe and Mail on the NHL’s trophy races. He names Shea Weber as the rightful winner of the Norris… I couldn’t agree more.

- Talk about some excellent matchups… the Eastern Conference playoffs look to be amazing in the first round… Penguins/Blue Jackets and Montreal/Tamps look to be “meh” if you are not a fan of the teams involved… but Flyers/Rangers and especially Red Wings/Bruins should be awesome!

- Mark your calendar for Saturday May 3rd for Petey’s 5K Face-Off, the annual run/walk to support the Peterson for Parkinsons Foundation. It was a blast to do it last year so make sure to join the SlapShot Radio team for this fun event. More information is available at the PFP Website.
