The Marty St. Louis saga continues to get better and better. Reports from Sportsnet this morning from former Tampa Bay Lightning general manager Brian Lawton indicate that St. Louis has been wanting out of Tampa for a while.

It begs the question. Why, if he wanted out in 2009, did St. Louis decide to re-sign with the Lightning for the 2011-12 season? Was he willing to give Steve Yzerman a chance? This report seems to indicate that there's more at play here than just the Olympic snub.

This also pokes a hole in the theory that St. Louis wants to play with his friend and former teammate Brad Richards, as Richards was a member of the Dallas Stars at the time. Could this whole situation be simply because St. Louis, who lives in Connecticut in the off-season, is homesick? It just seems a little too fishy, in this blogger's opinion.

In a Sportsnet article released this morning, it's said that Lawton speculated that there was some tampering between St. Louis and the Rangers. You can hear Lawton's interview right here, where he also says that he believes the snub has something to do with the 2014 trade request. I'm not sure. This just seems more like a personal issue than anything else.

If Marty has wanted out of Tampa since 2009, Tampa fans really don't have much to worry about if he sticks around until the end of the season. If he's been playing as an unhappy camper for the better part of a few years, he hasn't shown it. Based on Lawton's comments, it just sounds like St. Louis asks for a trade when things aren't going his way. It's hard to be mad at the player who has brought this organization so much success, but it just seems selfish. Maybe St. Louis isn't the God we all built him up to be.

My friend Rick Dixon, a very talented Winnipeg Jets writer, had this to say:

As always, thanks for reading.
