Execution -- and Goals. Winning Combination

After the loss to the FLyers in Philly, John Tavares told the media it was a failure to execute that lead to the loss. We've heard all the terms thrown around by Jack Capuano explaining what leads to a loss and what leads to a win.

Execution, goals and some luck is what really leads to a win. You have to score more than your opponent and you can't make any mistakes. Luck comes in when the officials call the game to the best of their ability and don't a) miss blatant high stick calls that leave players frustrated and looking to take things into their own hands or b) make phantom calls to even things out when the infraction is marginal.

So many factors come into play in hockey that you can never guess at the beginning of the game who will win. I thought for sure the Isles would lose yesterday afternoon and was more than elated that I was wrong. Just like USA Hockey was wrong to leave Kyle Okposo off their roster. But, not to dwell on it. Kyle will rest up and continue his excellent play for the Islanders instead.

The Isles won in spectacular, exciting to watch fashion. Even if I actually didn't watch. But Chris King can bring the game to life for anyone not planted in front of a TV. His excitement over a Michael Grabner breakaway only makes it more dissapointing when he doesn't hit the net. The last few minutes of the game had him at a Doc Emerick fever pitch. It was wonderful.

The weather tonight may play more of a part than anything else. With the impending 8-14" of snow expected for Long Island, attendance at the various viewing parties will take a hit for sure, but it could also effect the Isles bus ride home tonight from MSG. It may even effect their ride IN depending on when it starts.

Isles hitting the ice this morning and Art Staple of Newsday will be there to let us know who Jack will have on his roster. Guessing Poulin back in net and Boulton dressed for effect. But, we'll see.

If you haven't checked out Jan Levine's pre-game report, do so. It's a good one!
