Vancouver Canuck Tom Sestito was on HC@Noon today on Sportsnet with Nick Kypreos, Doug MacLean and Daren Millard. Tom spoke about line brawl vs Flames two nights ago and about his Coach John Torterella visiting the Flames Lock Room after the 1st period. While we wait to see the punishment handed out by the NHL to Torts, I thought I would post the interview Sestito had today with HC@Noon.
Daren Millard: When did U find out that Torts went to Flames dressing room?
Tom Sestito: I was getting some work done In the training room and they had the game on and I saw it on the TV there.
Millard: What was your reaction?
TS: I was a little surprised. But after that Brawl I guess I wasn't too surprised.
Millard: Did you think he lost his mind?
TS: I just think he's a fired up guy and he was having our back.
Nick Kypreos: How much was discussed In the lockeroom who was starting for the Flames?
TS: He walked into the room and said he really didn't want to put us in this situation but didn't really have a choice. He said guys don't be too Antsy just play a shift and when I saw Weatgarth taking the face off I knew everyone was going.
MacLean: Did he say why he went over?
TS: I don't think I'm first on his list to explain why he did something. I didn't have any idea why.
NK: People are talking about how something like this get really get your team going...Does this fire you up?
TS: I don't know. Maybe. I'm don't think that was his intention. He's been great. He's been great for our locker room and everyone loves him.
Millard: How was he when he spoke to you guys before 2nd period?
TS: He seemed very composed and just get back to playing hockey and what not.
MacLean: What's going on with this hockey club right now. 1 win in the last 9?
TS: Were just not scoring goals right now. Our PP has struggled a bit. Those guys got back on track in the Calgary game.
Millard: What did you say to Kellen Lain who got tossed out if his first game?
TS: Before the game I told him he doesn't have to fight any of those big games and make an impression. Just go out and play. I'm not sure who he ended up with.
Millard: Is there alternative reaction that you could have done off the faceoff or is that part of the code that you have to drop your gloves?
TS: I don't know... Did you see westgarth? I don't think he even looked at the puck being dropped. We really didn't have any choice.
Millard: When was your last 5 on 5 brawl?
TS: I don't know....I think I'd have to go back to junior so that's a first for me in pro hockey.
Millard: You guys still having fun with it?
TS: Yeah we had some fun with it but it's back to business and we gotta get a win in EDM.
