Well if you told me a team was going to blow a 3 goal lead last night I would have signed up for the Islanders being that team. However after digging a huge hole last night the Isles were able to pull themselves out of it and defeated the Minnesota Wild by a score of 5-4.

We all knew fallen Islander Nino Niederreiter was going to score last night and he played great adding a goal and assist that helped built that 3-0 lead. But the Islanders found their legs and battled back. Kyle Okposo was in full beast mode as he scored twice and added a helper. Okposo has been one of the few bright spots this season and he has finally blossomed into the player we had hoped for. I truly hope his hard work is rewarded with a trip to Russia to represent team USA. Thomas Hickey also had the best game of his young career adding a goal and two assists and Ryan Strome by far played his best game as a pro yesterday.

Kevin Poulin was good enough making some key saves late in the third to secure the victory. However moving forward the Islanders have to string some wins together. They will have a chance to do so tomorrow night as the ship up to Boston and face off against the big bad Bruins.

The team has shown some signs of life as they have made modest strides defensively since the return of Brian Strait and Evgeni Nabokov. They just need to find consistency. They need to play desperate hockey on a nightly basis. While the playoffs are a total pipe dream, they can still right the ship and at least climb up the standings. There are a lot of work to be done and there is talent here. They just need to bring it on a consistent basis. At the end of each game if we can at least say wow they played their hearts out tonight that would be a start to get them out of the mess that they are in.
