With no game until tomorrow and no substantial news to report I thought that I would pose a poll question for today.

The Penguins are fortunate to have 2 of the finest hockey players of their generation in Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Both players have put together very special individual seasons, however very rarely have they come within the same season. Injuries to both Crosby and Malkin have prevented both players from going toe to toe in chasing a scoring title.

The 2013-2014 season actually has the potential of Crosby and Malkin finishing first and second overall in league scoring. There are certainly many other NHL players who are capable of preventing that from happening, but you have to like Crosby and Malkin’s chances if they stay healthy. Both players have played in a majority of the Penguins games and both players are playing at a high level.

Crosby has been more consistent with his goal scoring, but Evgeni Malkin leads the league in assists with 30. Malkin has played in 2 less games than Crosby and trails him for the overall point lead by 5 points. Crosby has 43 points and Malkin has 38 points.

Given that Malkin was without James Neal for most of the year and has had a revolving door of right wingers it is impressive that he has been able to keep pace with Crosby.

Crosby has a points per game average of 1.34 this season and Malkin is currently at 1.27 points per game for 2013-2014.

Malkin is on the rise while Crosby is maintaining his high caliber standard.

So who will come out on top between Malkin and Crosby for the team lead in points this year?
