Kane-undrum

If I'm a Winnipeg Jets fan, I want to know once and for all what is wrong with Evander Kane. Enough of the "lower body ailment" bunk. What is the problem? Why hasn't he played since November 29 in Philly? Is it an ankle? Foot? Back? Groin? What?!!

The Jets are a middling team that can't seem to get out of its own way these days. They take one step forward, then two steps back. At 14-4-4, the Jets are a disappointing lot who continue sit still in the standings while the best of the West continue to pull away from the pack. They are 4-4-2 in their past 10 games. Average at best.

Kane's 7 goals and 7 assists (26 games played) are being missed by the Jets.

On Thursday, Jets head coach Claude Noel shed some light (and ambiguity) on the Kane conundrum when he said:

“He (Kane) more than day-to-day,” Noel said. “He hasn’t skated with us for a while.”

Noel sounds like a TV lawyer when he is asked to give an update on Kane. Noel says that he and the Jets are doing their “due diligence and research” on the Kane "injury" and that Kane's return to the lineup is “coming along slower than we anticipated.”

What the Hell is this supposed to mean?

The Jets are currently in 11th place in the Western conference standings, one point ahead of 12th place Nashville, six points ahead of 13th place Calgary, and seven points ahead of 14th place Edmonton.

The Detroit Red Wings are a hurting unit these day. On the same day that Ken Holland placed captain Henrik Zetterberg on long term injured reserve with his back injury, Jimmy Howard injured his knee while practicing Wednesday in Tampa. The club said that Howard requires further tests to determine the full extent of the injury. Zetterberg isn't eligible to return to the lineup until December 28.

The Wings have recalled goalie Petr Mrazek from the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Jonas Gustavsson is expected to get the start in the Wings’ goal tomorrow.

Revenge is a tasty dish best served cold.

Sabres rookie Zemgus Girgensons was the victim of a nasty head hit by Sens D Jared Cowen. Girgensons scored the only goal of the game for Buffalo, then scored the game winner in the shootout.

For his Rule 48 violation, Cowen has been suspended for two games, without pay, for an illegal check to the head of Girgensons during the dying moments of regulation hockey in Buffalo on Tuesday night.

The incident occurred at 18:03 of the third period. No penalty was assessed to Cowen on the play.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Cowen will forfeit $31,794.88. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Cowen will be watching from the press box as the Sabers will play in Ottawa on Thursday night.
