The Reason Why Teemu Selanne's Season is About to Turn Around

I don't think this is how Teemu Selanne envisioned his final NHL season would go. His team, the Anaheim Ducks, are among the top teams in the NHL despite a myriad of injuries and other varies setbacks. Selanne can take some comfort in that.

As far as his individual game,? well, that is another story altogether.

At this point the former 'Finnish Flash" wouldn't mind pressing the reset button on this frustrating season - and I'm sure if he had it to do all over again, he might have reconsidered diving into that pond to retrieve his cell phone from a partially submerged golf bag.

The 42-year-old has just three goals and seven total points in 22 games thus far and six of those point came in his fist seven games of the season. How bad is it for greatest scorer in Ducks history?

- Selanne has not recorded a point since October 27 - a span of 12 games. His goal scoring drought goes back even further, to October 20 - a span of 15 games.

As a fan of Selanne, I cringe while watching his rapidly diminishing game. Honestly it is almost painful to watch. Selanne looks slow and he disappears for long stretches and you can see that he is visibly frustrated on the ice. His body can no longer do what his mind expects it to do and its sad.

BUT...there is a silver lining on the horizon.

Selanne's trouble's began almost immediately with the loss of linemate Jakob Silfverberg to a broken hand. Silfverberg and Selanne had unmistakable chemistry - a natural blend of veteran savvy and youthful skill that was both complementary and productive for both players. Through Anaheim's first 10 games, the duo had teamed up for six goals and 14 points.

Without Team Jakob, Team Teemu has been a non-factor.

Silfverberg had been expected to miss between four to six weeks. Obviously it's going to be closer to the six weeks, maybe more. Silvferberg has been practicing on his own with some of the other injured Ducks and is inching closer to a return to Anaheim's lineup and when he does I expect Selanne's season to do a complete 180.

This should be great news to all the die hard Selanne fans. I believe this will not only help kick start Selanne's season, but I believe it could be the lift he needs to end his 19th and final NHL season as the Hockey God's intended - respectable, classy and on a high note.

Selanne has is and always has been a hero for some many and all good heroes find a happy ending.
