Established NHL defensemen with good mobility come at a premium these days. With the explosion of proven defensemen's salaries, that's especially true for players who are signed for years to come at moderate cap hits.
I've been hearing over the last week that that there are "multiple teams who would love to trade" for Dallas Stars defenseman Trevor Daley. The combination of the fact that he is still reasonably young (age 30), has excellent mobility and some two-way skill, plus the fact that he is signed for three more seasons after this one at a $3.3 million cap hit (which has become a very reasonable, nearly bargain rate for an established NHL regular on defense) has put Dallas in the driver's seat to demand "a greater return that you might expect for a non-All Star type of defenseman."
I am hearing that Edmonton, New Jersey and Ottawa all have solid interest, and there may be other teams as well.
