Toronto Maple Leafs center Nazem Kadri has been suspended three games for hit on Minnesota goaltender Niklas Backstrom in Wednesday night's 2-1 shootout loss to the Wild.
Kadri made contact with Backstrom's head with his right elbow midway through the first period, which eventually led to the goalie leaving the game in favor of backup Josh Harding.
The 23-year-old center will be unavailable to his club for their home-and-home series with the Buffalo Sabres on the weekend and for the Leafs game against the New York Islanders on Tuesday.
The suspension puts the Toronto in a difficult situation up the middle, as they have only converted winger James van Riemsdyk, Jay McClement and Jerred Smithson to play up the middle.
Leafs GM Dave Nonis will likely call up Trevor Smith from the AHL Toronto Marlies to replace Kadri, but according to TSN's Darren Dreger, Nonis continues to look for center help but has not found many palatable options.
