Buffalo Sabres general manager Darcy Regier today announced that forward Patrick Kaleta has been placed on waivers.

“This was a move we thought was necessary to help Pat change his game and preserve his career in this league,” Regier said. “We believe in Pat as a person and we hope he will continue his career in our organization and, if the circumstances are right, with the Buffalo Sabres.”

The Sabres have announced that Randy Cunneyworth has hired as a pro scout.

Here is the press release the Sabres sent out:

"Cunneyworth most recently served as interim head coach for the Montreal Canadiens after being promoted to assistant coach of the Canadiens following a one-year stint as head coach of the Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL). He guided the Canadiens to an 18-23-9 record in 50 games after taking over for head coach Jacques Martin midway through the 2011-12 season.

Prior to his time with the Canadiens organization, Cunneyworth spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the Atlanta Thrashers (2008-09 and 2009-10). Cunneyworth began his coaching career as a player-coach under Rochester Americans head coach Brian McCutcheon during the 1999-2000 AHL season. He was hired by the Americans to serve as head coach the following season and retained that post for eight seasons before leaving the Americans to join the Thrashers.

Before retiring as a player, Cunneyworth had an NHL career that spanned parts of 16 seasons. He began his NHL career with the Sabres in 1980-81 after the team selected him in the eighth round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft and returned to Buffalo in the 1998-99 season for what would be his final NHL season."

After a rough 2-12-2 start to the regular season, the Sabres begin the month of November by hosting the Anaheim Ducks. The teams have not met since Feb 29th, 2012, when Ryan Miller earned a 43-save shutout.

This will be the first of two meetings between the teams this season, and both will come within the next week.

The Sabres have struggled to score, the main reason why they have only been able to win two games.

“I understand we’ve got younger guys but you have to have a certain control of the game where you have to play together and work hard for each other and get out of situations,” Miller said. “It’s up to us to dig out of this and have the right attitude and right approach. It’s been a lot of games searching, trying to figure it out. Enough is enough.”

Miller has been playing well, but he is getting hung out to try on almost every night. His 1-10 record is not indicative of how he has been playing, but it’s clear that the Sabres goaltender is frustrated with the team in front of him, as he should be.

The Sabres have led for a grand total of 18:16 this season, not even a full period of hockey. They’ve trailed for 563:54 and have been tied for 319:40.

The Ducks are in the midst of a eight game road trip, and have posted a 3-2-1 record in the first six games of it. They are 10-3-1 overall and have been led by stellar goaltending from Jonas Hiller.

Coming into tonight’s game, it’s not an even matchup on paper, and the entire month of November is no easy task for the Sabres.

After tonight’s game, Buffalo will head west for a three game road trip, visiting the Sharks, Kings and the Ducks again.

The next five games are all against Western Conference teams.

Let's get some questions going for a mailbag edition, something I haven't done in a while:

As always, thank you for reading!
