The Sabres have confirmed that Thomas Vanek has been traded to the New York Islanders in exchange for a 2014 1st round pick, a 2015 2nd round pick and Matt Moulson.

Regier: "I don't love where we are, I like what we're doing and believe in the direction we're going."

"If you're under so much pressure, it's paralyzing. I turn pressure into a challenge. You have to find the enjoyment in doing your work. Focus on the positives and be hopeful."

A lifetime Sabres has been traded away. We knew it was going to come sooner or later this season, but what a random time to do it. Drafted in 2003, Vanek has recorded 497 points (254 goals, 243 assists) in 598 games.

Garth Snow on Vanek trade: "We had opportunity to acquire an elite player and given where we we are right now (.500), you go for it."

Who is Matt Moulson?
A 3-time 30 goal scorer, who plays left wing and wears #26. He will be 30 years old in a week or so, but has put up respectable numbers on Long Island, including a career high season of 36 goals.

Moulson has 233 points (124 goals, 109 assists) in 333 games.

Regier on Moulson: "He's a very good player." He helps address our needs." I believe this will help improve our hockey club going forward."

Moulson: "I was surprised...I thought this could be a possibility but I didn't think this was going to happen."

I like this trade for Buffalo. They managed to get a pair of high picks, and Moulson, for a player who has a contract coming to an end. I give credit to Regier on that one. However, the Islanders will have Tavares playing with Vanek, which makes for a scary line combo. I'm excited to see what both Vanek and Moulson do on their new teams.

Does this make Steve Ott the one and only captain of the Sabres? I think so, unless they give someone else a "C", but I don't see that happening.

Regier: "I've had no other discussions in regards to our potential free agents."

Moulson may be able to make it to Buffalo in time for tomorrow's game, but that is not for certain. It would be better for him to just wait until the next one on Thursday against the Rangers, in my opinion.
