New Jersey Devils: A Sign Of Things To Come?

Sunday afternoon it was announced that when the New Jersey Devils take on Columbus Tuesday night, Cory Schneider will start for the Devils.

This will be the first time this season that Schneider will start two consecutive games. Martin Brodeur has already done so.

The Devils aren't entering a set of back-to-backs, either, as they're off Wednesday so DeBoer is putting his eggs in one basket right now.

Is this a sign of things to come or is Pete DeBoer just rewarding Schneider for winning on Saturday?

It's tough to tell at this point, but it looks like DeBoer may be leaning towards giving Schneider more starts than Broduer. You can't kick Brodeur to the curb after all he's done for the team, but this is the right move and should be done more frequently going forward.

At this point in their respective careers Schneider is the better goaltender, and with the Devils not having a 1st round pick, they can't afford to sit near the bottom of the standings. If Schneider gives the team a better chance to win (he does), then he needs to start more often. The Devils have a team that should at least contend for a playoff spot and if Schneider sees more starts than Brodeur, they will do so.

Bob McKenzie said before the season started that the Devils wouldn't hesitate to give Schneider the keys to the car, if necessary. It's too early to say this trend will continue but it appears McKenzie is right.

For the sake of the Devils season, he better be.
