The Canadiens are barely three weeks into the season, and their clinic is already overflowing with injured players.

Max Pacioretty missed the second of what's likely to be about ten games when all is said and done, as the Canadiens fell to the Nashville Predators by a score of 2-1 Saturday.

In the loss, Daniel Briere suffered a concussion on a seemingly innocuous collision, as Eric Nystrom barreled through to get to a loose puck. Brandon Prust absorbed a hard fall into the boards with his shoulder--he, who missed 10 games last year with a separation--and left the game in the third period.

George Parros is on the mend. So is Alexei Emelin. So is Doug Murray.

And yes, the Canadiens have depth, and they have character too. But not too many teams can win with a full line of top-nine forwards on the sidelines. Nevermind the tough guy and the two blueliners--one of which is a key player, the other figuring to be a regular when healthy.

If the challenge isn't steep enough for Montreal's wounded warriors, they kick off this week with an Edmonton team out to avenge the early season loss the Canadiens handed them, and wrap it up with games against the NHL's hottest teams-- The Anaheim Ducks, Thursday, and the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.

Marc Bergevin was in Hamilton to take in a 2-1 loss to the Marlies for the Bulldogs, and he's elected Mike Blunden and Patrick Holland to come up to Montreal for Tuesday's game. An injury update on Prust will be forthcoming at practice, which is set to begin at 11:00 am (EDIT: PRUST OUT A MONTH WITH A SHOULDER INJURY.)

Time to see what Michael Bournival can do with more ice time. He was solid on Saturday, and still played under 10 minutes. Ryan White is another player that's likely to move up a bit in the lineup.

Lars Eller's line with Brendan Gallagher and Alex Galchenyuk continue to be the go-to offensive weapons for the team. Expect Tomas Plekanec, Brian Gionta and Rene Bourque to be reunited on Tuesday, unless Therrien intends to keep Bourque with Desharnais while Travis Moen potentially fills in for Prust.

Tough sledding for the Habs, as they have their work cut out for them to avoid turning their 5-3 record to a 5-6 record. With the injuries they have, a winning week would be a miracle.
