Some late night quick hits for your enjoyment...

*To be honest I didn't think much about the Jake Gardiner rumors of the past few days, until tonight when I finally heard it from a source to good to be ignored...So tonight I was surprised to hear the Maple Leafs actually would consider a move for the right forward and the right prospect...

From the Oilers side of things this is far less shocking if you just watch the defense of the Oilers and realize how much it must be destroying a "Defense first" coach like Dallas Eakins who is quite familiar with Gardiner...as is the Oilers prized young D-man Justin Schultz. Schultz puck moving skills and vision in the offensive zone can be breath taking, but his play in his own end right now would makes Paul Coffey look like Kevin Lowe. Schultz is a give-away machine, but his best years were unquestionably the three years he spent as a Wisconsin Badger paired with....Jake Gardiner.

On Bryzgalov...

*There are others out there who are saying the Oilers are also still very much in the market for a stabilizing force in between the pipes as well and Ilya Bryzgalov, represented by Edmonton's own Ritch Winter, is a solid option. Bryzgalov is currently signed to a training camp tryout with the ECHL's Las Vegas Wranglers who lost their opening pre-season game Wednesday Night 3-2, but Bryzgalov wasn't dressed for the contest. Oddly enough there have been murmurs of Calgary also having some interest in Bryzgalov...The Penguins are still the best bet, but have been adamant that until they see Bryz showing his stuff in some games somewhere they are reticent to show any real interest.

*As I stated in my last article the Flyers aren't simply going to sit idly by and hope Craig Berube can mold this group of players into HIS team, and one of the players I continue to hear as high on the Flyers radar is Jets Defenseman Dustin Byfuglien. The Flyers have been down this road before and the price was extremely high. It would take a roster/top 6 forward and a blue chip prospect. It mat not happen this month, or even in 2013, but remember the line has been cast and should circumstances on either team take a turn the possibility is in place.....I am told..
